7-Day Wailoaloa Fiji Holiday | Cheaper Stay Than Denarau
Wailoaloa Beach is the perfect middle budget tourist destination in Fiji for families, solo travelers and especially backpackers.
Wailoaloa Beach is closer to the airport than Denarau and still offers that resort-style relaxation. There’s available transport to Port Denarau to catch day trips to Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands.
For solo and social travelers, you’re likely going to prefer booking at a Wailoaloa resort than at Denarau for its more open social atmosphere.
Here is how to spend a perfect week based at Crowne Plaza, Wyndham Garden Wailoaloa Beach, or Club Fiji.
For a higher budget stay, Denarau Island is better for couples and families. However, each Denarau resort is tailored to both at varying degrees so find out more in the blog.

Day 1: Arrival & Sunset Vibes
Arrive at Nadi International Airport and take a 15-minute taxi to your Wailoaloa resort. Settle in and hit the pool. Later, walk down to the sand for a Wailoaloa sunset.
First time in Fiji? Here’s everything you need to know.
Have a casual “feet in the sand” dinner at The Beach Club Wailoaloa (next to Wyndham Garden). The burger was good with a Fiji Gold beer to gulp it down though I don’t recommend the Margherita Pizza.
The Beach Club restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner at relatively good price compared to ordering at the resorts. Do note it’s a cashless restaurant accepting international debit/credit cards and local Fiji QR app payment called M-Paisa. Get Fiji mobile data to smoothen our experience.
Day 2: Mud Baths & Giant Gardens
Take a 20-minute taxi to the Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Pool. The kids will love getting “purposefully dirty” in the volcanic mud.
Visit the nearby Garden of the Sleeping Giant. It’s a gentle 30-minute boardwalk walk through thousands of orchids—perfect for little legs.
Head to Vasaqa Fiji (near the Wailoaloa turnoff) for some of the best BBQ in the area. it’s close to Grace Road Supermarket.
Day 3: Island Day Trip (The Mamanucas)
Catch a free shuttle to Port Denarau for a day trip to South Sea Island.
It’s only a 30-minute boat ride. The kids can use the semi-submersible “Finding Nemo” submarine to see the reef without getting their hair wet.
End the day with a room service or a BBQ pizza at Club Fiji and watch the stars.
Day 4: Culture & Colors
Visit the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple in Nadi Town. The vibrant colors are a hit for photos (remember to dress modestly; sarongs are usually available at the gate).
Grab a fresh juice and a healthy wrap at Bulaccino Café in Namaka.
Visit the Fiji Culture Village in Nacaqara for an interactive afternoon of pottery making, weaving, and a traditional Meke dance performance.
Day 5: Adrenaline & Waterparks
For older kids (5+), head to Zip Fiji for an exhilarating fly through the jungle canopy.
Head into Denarau (15 mins away) for the Big Bula Waterpark. It’s full of giant inflatables and hard-top slides that will wear the kids out completely.
Enjoy a high-end dinner at Crowne Plaza’s Harvest Restaurant while the kids enjoy the evening activities at the kids’ club.
Day 6: Local Life & Souvenirs
Visit the Nadi Produce Market. It’s a sensory explosion. Buy some seasonal mangoes or pineapples to take back to the resort.
Final souvenir shopping at the Nadi Handicraft Market for hand-carved kava bowls or woven fans.
Celebrate your final night with a Sunset Dinner Cruise from Port Denarau, or keep it local with live music at Sailor’s Beach in Wailoaloa.
Day 7: Lazy Morning & Farewell
Enjoy a final “Island Style” breakfast at Island Style Breakfast Bar. Take one last dip in the ocean.
Most flights depart in the afternoon, giving you time for a final walk along the Wailoaloa shoreline to say “Sota Tale” (until we meet again) to Fiji.
Staying in Wailoaloa vs Coral Coast
Choosing between Wailoaloa and the Coral Coast really comes down to whether you want social convenience or a traditional beach resort vibe.
Wailoaloa is right next to Nadi Airport, making it super easy to reach, and it’s famous for its lively beachfront bar scene, social hostels like Bamboo Backpackers and Sailors Beach Resort, dark sandy shores, and beautiful sunsets.
Wailoaloa is also the perfect transit hub or budget-friendly spot for meeting other travellers and taking day trips out to the islands on day trips such as Malamala, Beachcomber Island and Captain Cook All Day Sail.
On the other hand, the Coral Coast is about a 1- to 2-hour drive south, offering a tropical getaway with white sandy beaches especially in Natadola where the InterContinental Resort and Yatule Resort are, lush greenery and large self-contained resorts.
The Tambua Sands Resort in particular is an adults-only resort with private plunge pool in Coral Coast. If you want a stopover with easy connections go with Wailoaloa and if you’re looking to unpack once, kick back by the reef, and soak in a quieter, postcard-style Fijian vacation, the Coral Coast is definitely the better pick.
Coral Coast is a go-to for surfing and snorkelling with affordable stays at Fiji Beachouse, Fiji Hideaway Resort and even has child-friendly resorts where kids eat free at Naviti Resort, the Warwick Fiji and Double Tree Sonaisali Resort. The resorts in Coral Coast caters to a more variety of tourists than Wailoaloa.
