Aroha Beachfront: Best Taveuni Resort for Mental Rejuvenation (Fiji)

Aroha Beachfront is small and intimate, with only a few private huts (bures) set right along the coast amid greenery and picture-perfect sunset views across the Somosomo strait (popular scuba diving place in Fiji).

Aroha is perfect Taveuni resort for senior couples looking to slow down, unwind, and soak. Because it’s so small, you never have to worry about noisy crowds or bustling hotel lobbies. You can sit on your private deck, take in the breathtaking ocean sunset, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet with the sound of gentle waves in the background.

Senior Travellers to Fiji Should Book Aroha Beachfront

Unlike many Taveuni resorts located high on hillsides or requiring steep climbs, Aroha’s bures sit directly on ground level making its easier on the joints.

Quietness is also a highlight of Aroha where children 9 years and under are not permitted to stay and thus ensuring a peaceful and calm environment where guests can read, relax by the infinity pool, or watch the sunset over the Somosomo Strait without chaotic resort noise as in the case of Denarau Island resorts. Speaking of chaos, when I was in the breakfast restaurant at a crowded Denarau resort I witnessed an unsupervised child running into a person at and caused them to lose balance. Luckily grabbed onto a nearby chair.

Taveuni Seaside Relaxation

When it comes to rejuvenation, Aroha Taveuni really shines. The bures are clean, spacious and private, featuring lovely tropical-style showers and king beds that make resting easy.

Right outside, there is a beautiful freshwater pool sitting right at the water’s edge, so you can lazily float and hear the sea waves as water therapy of sorts. Just close your eyes and immerse yourself in the environment – feel the water, hear the waves, smell the ocean. And at night you’ll see the stars light up as the light pollution doesn’t exist in Taveuni. You’ll quite literally at the island living life.

Things to do at Aroha Beachfront

Booking at Aroha Taveuni, you can plan a mix of simple oceanfront relaxation and tropical adventures. You can spend your mornings lounging on your private deck listening to the waves, reading a book or take a dip in the oceanfront freshwater pool with a drink. Kayaks are available for guests to use.

Marine lovers can set out on a short boat trip to dive or snorkel the world-famous Rainbow Reef, while land-based days feature short excursions to local highlights like the waterfalls boat tour, coastal walks or the International Date Line.

As evening approaches, you can unwind with a cold drink at the on-site Kai Time Restaurant to catch the sunset, indulge in a wood-fired pizza or beef burger which was my favourite. The beef patty is sourced locally in Southern Taveuni which explains the freshness and juiciness.

Even if you don’t stay at Aroha and visiting the International Dateline and waterslides at Waitavala, you can stop by at the Kai Time Restaurant on walk-in basis for breakfast, lunch and dinner from wraps, pastas, burgers, pizza to vegetarian dishes and gourmet coffee.

Make sure to grab a seat looking at the ocean horizon because food won’t be the only thing you’re indulging. On special occasions there will be a live band performing in the evening.

Kai Time opens 11am to 8pm Monday to Thursdays and opens earlier from 8am to 8pm Thursdays to Sundays. Produce not found on the island are quickly delivered by Garden Island Root Crop ensuring freshness so you know you’re getting the best in Taveuni.

Is Aroha Beachfront right for you?

Aroha is suitable for mature travellers that wish to relax and take in their environment at a slow stress-free pace. That’s not to say adventure-types have nothing to do – apart from the nearby International Dateline, waterslides and Holy Cross Church, there’s also scuba diving, snorkeling and blowhole that the resort management can arrange upon arrival.

The Taveuni accommodation is only about a twenty-minute drive from Taveuni’s Matei airport. The journey to Aroha will be along the coast giving you a scenic ride where you’ll pass the Somosomo village and the river that its villagers use since ancient times. You’ll also pass the town area and this is the place to shop if should you want snacks or forgot daily necessities (there’s a supermarket 2 minutes walk from Aroha as well).

However, Aroha won’t be a top choice if you seek a crowded social party atmosphere, kids club or a swim-up bar. The facilities and amenities available are more than enough for a relaxed and mindful getaway from home (and the kids).
