Savusavu 5-Day Fiji Itinerary: Hidden Paradise

If Taveuni is the “Garden Island,” then Savusavu is Fiji’s “Hidden Paradise.” Located on the second-largest island, Vanua Levu, Savusavu is a lush, vibrant town tucked into a deep-water bay that feels like a scene from a movie.

At the center of this experience is Koro Sun Resort & Rainforest Spa. Whether you are sleeping in an Edgewater Floating Bure (Fiji’s only floating rooms!) or a villa tucked into the jungle canopy, Koro Sun offers a unique “land and sea” adventure.

The Journey: Nadi to Savusavu

To reach Savusavu, you’ll take a domestic flight from Nadi International Airport (NAN) to Savusavu Airport (SVU).

Flight Details (2026)

  • Airlines: Fiji Link (Fiji Airways) is the primary provider.
  • Availability: Flights operate daily, with approximately 3–4 services per day.
  • Flight Time: Just 1 hour. It is one of the most scenic flights in the world, passing over the reefs of the Vatu-i-Ra Seascape.
  • 2026 Pricing: Expect to pay between $230 FJD and $410 FJD for a return ticket.
  • Arrival Tip: Koro Sun Resort provides free airport shuttles. It’s only a 15-minute drive from the tiny Savusavu airstrip to the resort lobby.

The 5-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & The Rainforest Spa

  • Morning: Land in Savusavu and take the scenic shuttle to Koro Sun.
  • Check-In (2:00 PM): Settle into your bure. If you’re in the Edgewater Floating Bures, your “backyard” is literally the lagoon.
  • Afternoon: Visit the Rainforest Spa. This isn’t your typical hotel spa; it’s set deep in the jungle next to a cascading waterfall. Try the Banana Leaf Body Wrap, a signature treatment using indigenous leaves to detoxify the skin.
  • Evening: Enjoy a “Manager’s Cocktail Party” (usually held weekly) followed by dinner at the Palm Grove Restaurant, which uses ingredients sourced directly from the resort’s organic gardens.

Day 2: Salt Lake Kayaking & Split Rock

  • Morning: Salt Lake Kayaking. Koro Sun offers a unique excursion to Fiji’s largest salt lake. You’ll kayak through mangroves into a tranquil, inland lake that feels completely untouched by time.
  • Afternoon: Split Rock Snorkeling. Head out by boat (only 15 minutes away) to Split Rock. This massive coral head is famously “split” down the middle, creating a canyon filled with clownfish, parrotfish, and giant clams.
  • Evening: Casual sunset drinks at the Sand Bar overlooking the lagoon.

Day 3: Vuadomo Waterfall & Savusavu Town

  • Morning: Vuadomo Waterfall. A 20-minute drive and a gentle jungle walk bring you to this magnificent cascade. It’s the perfect spot for a freshwater swim.
    • Note: Remember to dress modestly for the village visit before the hike; your resort guide will help you with a sulu (sarong).
  • Afternoon: Savusavu Town & Hot Springs. Head into town to see the Nakama Hot Springs, where you can watch locals cook dalo (taro) in the boiling natural volcanic vents.
  • Shopping: Visit the J. Hunter Pearls showroom to see the world’s rarest pearls in earthy “Fiji colors” like gold, pistachio, and chocolate.

Day 4: Chocolate & Pearls

  • Morning: KokoMana Cocoa Tour. Visit the nearby KokoMana farm for a “Tree to Bar” tour. You’ll see how Fijian cocoa is grown, fermented, and turned into world-class chocolate (and yes, there are plenty of tastings!).
  • Afternoon: J. Hunter Pearl Farm Tour. Take a boat out into the bay to see how these famous pearls are farmed. It is a fascinating look at the delicate balance between environmental conservation and luxury jewelry.
  • Evening: A traditional Fijian Meke (dance performance) and a Lovo feast cooked in an underground oven.

Day 5: Departure

  • Morning: Enjoy a final breakfast and perhaps a quick round of golf on the resort’s 9-hole pitch and putt course.
  • Check-Out (10:00 AM): Take the resort shuttle back to Savusavu Airport.
  • The Return Flight: Capture one last photo of the lush “Hidden Paradise” from above as you fly back to Nadi.
